How to visit Bheda Farm?

Bheda Farm is near Chitlang and Markhu so you don’t have to travel much if you’re already in either of these places.

While travelling from Kathmandu, the journey to Chitlang covers almost 27 kilometres. If you’re travelling by bus, it normally is a 2-hour ride. However, that may vary on the road conditions and traffic flow. A bike ride may take a little less time. Along the way, get ready to experience the heartwarming natural beauty of passing places.

There are normally two routes to reach Bheda Farm via Chitlang. They are:

1. Kathmandu-Thankot-Godam-Chitlang-Bheda Farm

Most people take local buses from Kathmandu since they are the easiest and cheapest forms of transportation. You can easily take a bus either from Kalanki Bus Park or New Bus Park in the capital. While some parts of the road may be bumpy, you will enjoy natural scenery along the way. If you’re travelling by bike, you can stop for mini breaks and enjoy the scenery and take pictures and videos as well.

Once you arrive at Godam, you will be left with two options to reach your destination. You can either take a jeep ride for a comfortable and fast travel which will take around half an hour or you could hike which will be adventurous and may take up to two hours. Then, after a 30-minute trek, you will find yourself in the lush lap of Bheda Farm.

2. Kathmandu-Pharping-Markhu/Kulekhani-Bheda Farm

Another option to reach Bheda Farm from Kathmandu is through the Markhu Kulekhani route. You can take a bus early morning from Balkhu and Markhu within four hours provided that everything is good. For this, you will pass through Chovar on the outskirts of the valley which is a serene place to be. Then comes Pharping, Salle, Kulekhani Dam and finally Markhu from where you can trek for 15 minutes to reach Bheda Farm.

You can also make a stop at Kulekhani Dam, have lunch by the water and enjoy a short boat trip with your friends.

Tere is also an alternative route to travel to Bheda Farm via Chandragiri. You can either hike through the hills or take a bus or motorcycle and make your way towards Markhu and ultimately Bheda Farm. This route is however less travelled. Despite that, if you choose this route, you will get to see amazing views of lush green hills and mountains the whole way. This is the perfect place for an adventurer.

When is the right time to visit Bheda Farm?

The good news is there is no one particular time to visit Bheda Farm. Since it is near Kathmandu, you can visit this heavenly place anytime and enjoy its mild weather, which is one of the reasons why it is one popular destination among travellers.

That being said, a large number of travellers prefer going to Bheda Farm between September to November when the weather remains between 23-26 degrees during the day and 10-13 degrees at night.  You can also visit the farm from March till May when the days are bright and beautiful and the skies clear up just before monsoon. During this time, the deep forest and the lake view are a sight to behold.

While you can visit Bheda Farm anytime, the rest of the months are not that great for a perfect vacation. While December, January and February are winters, June, July and August bring rainfall which makes your travel messy and hard and also there is a big risk of leeches during the monsoon. So, we recommend you skip these months to make your travel comfortable, fun and safe.

What are other places to visit near Bheda Farm?

There are plenty of options available to travel around Bheda Farm. There are temples, lakes, villages, forests and waterfalls to enjoy and rejuvenate. Here are the top 3 naturally appealing recommended places around Bheda Farm if you want to take a tour:

1. Goat Cheese Factory

As Bheda Farm is known for its amazing collection of goats and sheep, it is no surprise that a cheese factory could be around. The Goat Cheese Factory is a great highlight of Chitlang and is one of a kind. This is the only goat cheese factory available in Nepal. This factory was established by a couple in 2002 and since then, their business has reached heights and there is no sign of stopping.

This tasty and organic cheese is delivered to many 5-star hotels in Kathmandu and also exported internationally. Even domestic tourists purchase the cheese during their trip to the farm. This is a great example of the sheer hard work and dedication of the couple who have achieved so much with this business.

You can get both soft and hard cheese as per your taste and if you’re thinking it might be too expensive, think again. The price is only Rs. 150 per serving size for an individual. So, next time you visit Bheda Farm, do give this place a try.

2. Satdhara

Another historically important place in Chitlang is the iconic Satdhara meaning seven taps. This water body also has a religious significance as it is believed that the place where the seven stone fountains are erected today was once the home of Lord Ganesh, Shiva, Krishna, and Goddess Saraswati.

You can enjoy the freshwater from the fountains which flow through the underground of the forest once you get there. Every year on Vasant Panchami, a puja in honour of Devi Saraswati is held in this very place.

3. Mohini Waterfall

Mohini Waterfall popularly known as Mohini Jharna among the locals, is another most visited place near Bheda Farm. You might have seen people posting pictures of themselves while visiting this mesmerizing waterfall. It is a bit shocking that this waterfall got noticed only a couple of years ago, thanks to social media.

I recommend you to visit this place during monsoon since the water level reaches its peak during this time and the view is magnificent. Mohini waterfall is nearly one and a half hours walk from Bheda Farm. Along the way, you can see many tourists and interact with the super-friendly locals.
